Will my dog be safe?

Your dog’s safety is our top priority At Pawz Up Play, we focus on prevention first. Dogs are introduced gradually through a structured Pack Intro process, and group dynamics are actively managed throughout the day. Our team is always present and supervising. We watch for early signs of tension and step in quickly to guide behaviour before it escalates. Because of this approach, we’re able to maintain a calm, well-balanced environment where dogs can interact safely and confidently.

 

What training does your team have?

Our team is trained to provide safe, attentive, and informed care in a group daycare environment.

All team members are certified in both human First Aid and Pet CPR, and receive hands-on training in dog behaviour, body language, and safe handling practices. We focus on proactive supervision—recognizing early signs of stress, over-arousal, or discomfort, and responding appropriately to keep the environment calm and balanced. Training at Pawz Up Play is ongoing. We regularly reinforce best practices, share learnings, and continue developing our team to ensure we’re always providing the highest standard of care.

 

What happens if there is a dog altercation?

While serious incidents are rare in a structured environment like ours, we are always prepared. We focus on prevention by carefully managing introductions, group dynamics, and energy levels throughout the day. Our team is trained to recognize early signs of tension and intervene before behaviour escalates. If a disagreement or altercation does occur, we respond immediately and calmly, separating dogs safely and bringing the situation under control. We always communicate openly with dog parents about anything out of the ordinary, including what happened and how it was handled.

 

Is there an outdoor space?

Pawz Up Play operates in a fully climate-controlled, indoor environment designed specifically for safety, comfort, and consistency.  This allows us to maintain consistent conditions year-round, regardless of weather. Our flooring is intentionally selected to mimic outdoor and sidewalk surfaces, while remaining secure and easy to maintain. It also differs from typical home flooring, helping reinforce appropriate behaviour and avoid confusion with at-home habits. To support fresh air, movement, and routine, we incorporate two short, structured group walks each day. These are done in small groups under close supervision to ensure a safe and positive experience for every dog. This combination allows us to provide the benefits of outdoor exposure while maintaining a controlled, well-managed environment.

 

How do you group the dogs?

Dogs are grouped in two main play areas: one for small dogs and one for medium-large dogs.

Within those spaces, our team actively supervises play, monitors body language, and engages with dogs throughout the day to help keep interactions safe, balanced, and well controlled. Rather than relying on static groupings alone, we manage the environment in real time—redirecting, supporting, and adjusting as needed based on energy, comfort, and behaviour.  Our goal is to create a structured environment where dogs can interact positively and confidently.

 

Why aren’t toys used during group play?

We do use select toys and enrichment tools, but only in a highly controlled and closely supervised way. Items such as eggs or tug ropes may be introduced intentionally by our team when appropriate for the group and the moment. We do not allow unrestricted toy access in group play, as that can increase excitement, create competition, or lead to conflict between dogs.  Our approach is designed to keep enrichment safe, purposeful, and well managed.

 

What if my dog is nervous or shy?

That’s completely normal—especially in a new environment. We introduce every dog gradually, starting in a controlled setting and building up at a pace that suits them. Some dogs warm up quickly, while others take a bit more time. Our goal is not to rush the process, but to help each dog feel comfortable, supported, and confident. We also provide one-on-one support and quiet space when needed, so dogs are never overwhelmed.

 

How do you introduce new dogs?

Every dog begins with a structured Pack Intro. We start with a calm, one-on-one introduction and gradually build up to small group interaction. Throughout the process, we closely observe behaviour, comfort level, and play style. Only when a dog is ready do we introduce them to the larger group. This approach helps ensure that every dog joins the pack in a way that feels safe and positive.

 

Do dogs just run around all day?

No. A well-run daycare balances activity with structure. At Pawz Up Play, the day includes guided play, enrichment activities, rest periods, and one-on-one interaction. This helps prevent overstimulation and supports both physical and mental wellbeing.

Can I check in on my dog during the day?

Yes. We offer secure live camera access so you can check in on your dog while they’re with us. We believe transparency builds trust, and we’re proud of the environment we create every day.

 

Will I receive updates about my dog’s day?

Yes. At pickup, a member of our team will walk you through your dog’s day, including how they settled in, their social interactions, and any notable behaviours or moments. You will also receive a report card by email, which may include highlights from the day and photos of your dog. Our goal is to give you a clear, honest picture of your dog’s experience—so you leave feeling informed, confident, and connected to your dog’s day.

 

Do you accept all dogs?

Our goal is to create a safe, balanced environment where dogs can thrive. While many dogs do well in daycare, not every dog is suited to a group setting. Our Pack Intro process helps us determine whether a dog will be comfortable and successful in our environment. If we feel daycare is not the right fit, we will communicate that honestly and respectfully, always with the dog’s best interest in mind. In those cases, we’re happy to recommend more individualized options, such as dog walking or drop-in visits, to ensure your dog is still supported in a way that suits them best.

 

What if my dog isn’t a good fit for group play?

Not every dog thrives in a daycare environment—and that’s okay. If we feel a dog is uncomfortable, overwhelmed, or not suited for group play, we will communicate that honestly and respectfully. In some cases, we may suggest gradual introductions or alternative options. Our priority is always the wellbeing of the dog.

 

 

Can you accommodate dogs with special needs?

We do our best to support dogs with individual needs, including medical considerations, behavioural sensitivities, or specific routines. Because we operate in a group environment, suitability will depend on whether we can safely and comfortably meet your dog’s needs within that setting. We’re always happy to discuss your dog’s specific requirements and determine the best approach together.

 

What are your hours?

We operate Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Drop-off and pick-up take place within designated morning and afternoon windows to support a calm, structured environment and allow our team to remain focused on both the dogs and our clients. Specific timing details will be shared during onboarding so you know exactly what to expect.

Our drop-off and pick-up windows are intentionally designed to support both a smooth experience for dog parents and a calm, well-managed environment for the dogs. They allow our team to be fully available to greet you, answer questions, and provide thoughtful updates about your dog’s day—without being pulled away from supervising the group. They also help us manage arrivals and departures in a controlled way, ensuring dogs are introduced and reintroduced to the environment gradually, rather than all at once. This approach reduces stress, supports safer interactions, and helps maintain the balanced, structured environment that dogs thrive in.

 

What do I need for my dog’s first visit?

To get started, we’ll guide you through a simple onboarding process that includes your dog’s Pack Intro and a review of their vaccination records. On the day of your dog’s visit, we ask that they arrive on a leash and be ready to enter a new environment calmly. Our team will walk you through everything at drop-off, answer any questions, and ensure both you and your dog feel comfortable from the start.

 

How often should my dog attend daycare?

This depends on your dog’s personality, energy level, and comfort in a group environment.

Some dogs benefit from attending multiple days per week to build routine and consistency, while others do well with a lighter schedule. We’re happy to provide guidance based on your dog’s behaviour and how they settle into the pack.

 

Why do you require vaccination information?

We require up-to-date vaccination information to help maintain a safe and healthy environment for all dogs in our care.

Because dogs interact closely in a daycare setting, vaccinations play an important role in reducing the risk of illness and protecting the wellbeing of the entire pack. We review all vaccination records as part of our onboarding process to ensure every dog meets our health and safety standards. This is a standard requirement for group care environments and is part of our commitment to safety, responsible care, and transparency. If you have any questions about specific requirements, our team is happy to walk you through them.

 

Can I book grooming on its own?

Grooming services at Pawz Up Play are available exclusively for dogs who are part of our daycare pack. This is an intentional part of how we operate. By working only with dogs who are already comfortable in our environment, we’re able to maintain a calm, consistent experience and avoid introducing unfamiliar dogs into the space. This helps reduce stress, supports pack stability, and ensures that every dog remains comfortable and at ease throughout the day.

 

Why don’t you offer bathing as part of grooming?

We’ve intentionally chosen not to offer full bathing services as part of our grooming approach.

Bathing requires extended time away from the pack in a more isolated setting, which can be stressful for many dogs—especially in a daycare environment where they are used to being part of the group. Instead, we focus on light grooming services that can be done efficiently and comfortably, allowing dogs to return quickly to their routine and remain part of the pack experience.

 

Do you offer training?

We don’t offer formal training classes at Pawz Up Play. However, part of being in a structured daycare environment naturally supports learning and reinforcement of basic behaviours. Throughout the day, our team guides dogs through calm interactions, recall, and appropriate social behaviour within the group.This helps build confidence, focus, and positive habits over time—without replacing formal training programs.
